We specialize in Gonstead, the most advanced form of chiropractic in the world. Gonstead chiropractic is “precision” chiropractic. It is a system of meticulously analyzing the spine to find nerve pressure (subluxation) and then giving a precise adjustment to the exact right bone, in the exact right direction (in 3 dimensions) and leaving the other normal bones alone. Gonstead chiropractors do not give a general manipulation moving every bone in the spine. We give very precise adjustments because we realize that adjusting bones that are not causing nerve pressure can actually cause problems as bad as the nerve pressure itself. A good analogy for Gonstead would be this: You can take a stick of dynamite and tap it all day long but if you give one good precisely placed hit, it will explode. When a Gonstead chiropractor gives that precise adjustment, “the dynamite explodes,” giving spectacular results.

You may ask, “How can you be so extremely precise in finding the nerve pressure (subluxation)?” Simply stated, it is because instead of using just one method to find it, we use 6 ways as a sort of checks and balances system. All the findings must correlate with each other to warrant an adjustment. We check for lack of motion in the spine, tenderness, swelling and redness of the skin. We also use X-rays and a heat differential device to find the nerve pressure. Lastly, we use Dr. Gonstead’s enormous experience to help direct us in our search. We go through these extensive procedures on every patient on every visit to ensure that the patient is getting exactly what they need. We use meticulous analysis and precision adjusting to give spectacular results.

It is also interesting to note that because of his detailed study of the spine, Dr. Gonstead taught that rotation or twisting of the spine during the chiropractic adjustment was harmful to the patient. Current Chiropractic, Osteopathic, and Medical literature links twisting of the spine to accelerated degeneration of the cushion pad, or disc, located between the spinal bones. The twisting motion associated with crude methods of “manipulating” the neck or cervical spine has also been implicated as the major factor in the rare incidence of stroke associated with chiropractic “treatment”. This tragic occurrence, occasionally reported in scientific literature and the popular press, has diverted attention away from the enormous benefits of properly administered chiropractic care. This is why with Gonstead we do not twist the spine!

One hallmark of the Gonstead Technique is adjustment of the neck with a very specific maneuver that is completed with the patient seated. The neck is adjusted in this manner to eliminate the twisting or rotation aspect of the adjusting procedure. The Gonstead Technique is recognized throughout the global chiropractic community as one of the safest systems of evaluating and caring for conditions related to the spine.
